Hey, Lenore! This is our Executive Editor's best friend. Her name's Lenore Daglish and she's a 6'' tall plastic dragon. She's also a prolific little scribe. Meet her now and read her work this fall. This scaly critter's cleverness might surprise you. Either that or you'll just think Christine Stoddard's crazy. (Does it matter?) The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.
Nobody's got this chipmunk's tongue.A pretty mouthy chipmunk lives on our homepage. She always has something new to say. Check back frequently to see her latest message!

Story GenerationMany of our readers ask how we come up with story ideas. The answer, fledglings, is that it varies. There's no formula.
Sometimes it's obvious what we should cover. If there's a book, movie, art show, video game, or product of any kind that relates to our quirky interests, we want to research it and write about it so you can learn about it, too. As much as we try to cover nationally-marketed products that are available to nearly everyone, we also enjoy shedding light on more obscure things. Often we say the weirder, the better. Other times, we sit and bounce ideas off of each other until somebody gets excited. What starts out as small talk gives way to grander ideas. Then we further develop these ideas until they become fully-fleshed pitches capable of being researched and written with plenty of entertaining details. Our classes also inspire us. Most of us are still students at Virginia Commonwealth University and most of us study the arts, English, or Mass Communications. History classes often prompt us to explore topics for our 'Brains' category in more depth, while fashion classes encourage us to write something for 'Beauty.' Art history, literature, theater, creative writing, cinema, and other classes inspire us, too. Then, every once in a while, a chubby quail perches herself on one of our shoulders and whispers a story idea into our ear. She's pretty persuasive. Quail Bell Express ['zine]QB has existed as a website since May 2010. That may not be long in real time, but it's eons in Internet time. Now, instead of doing what so many magazines do, which is go from print to web, we want to do just the opposite. We know our fledglings crave the nostalgic. So this fall, we're finally transferring our pixels to paper. That's right, Quail Bell's going to print with our premiere 'zine project, Quail Bell Express. Of course, as our long-time readers are surely aware, our staff consists of young writers and artists (not exactly the most economically endowed of demographics). That's why we launched a Kickstarter! We just need $300 to put out the first couple hundred copies of our first issue.
