Yeeeeeeeeeeeah, M. Craig! Our former Prose Editor, Maggie Craig, recently had her first novel, The Narrows, receive its first-ever review. (Dammit, someone beat us to it!) That's quite an accomplishment for a mere twenty-something trying to navigate Brooklyn's alternative lit scene. Oh, and if you have no idea what the novel's about, we ran an excerpt from it a while back.

Because of you, 'zines for everybody!Dear fledglings,
You are amazing. Thank you so much for helping us not only reach our Kickstarter goal but actually surpass it! Our Kickstarter ended yesterday and we cannot be more grateful for the funding. Because of your generosity and enthusiasm, we will now be able to distribute free copies of our 'zine in honor of late Managing Editor Josephine Stone across the city of Richmond, Virginia...FOR FREE. Anyone who wants to pick up a copy of QB Express and get their dose of QB quirkiness can...FOR FREE. We'll let you know as soon as we begin distributing more copies (you may have seen a few in Carytown back in February, but they've since been snatched up). The only thing that would make us happier is if Josie were with us again. Thank you so, so, so much for helping us make this dream come true. Feathery hugs, The QB Crew P.S. The Latest in Josie's CaseDear fledglings, To learn of the latest development in the case related to the death of our late Managing Editor Josephine Stone, please check out The Richmond Times-Dispatch's (relatively recent) story: We apologize for the delay in posting this link, and, of course, wish Josie's family the best. Welcome Sean Marks! Dear Fledglings, We here at QB were sure you noticed a new face grace our About page, joining the many-talented group hanging out on the sidebar. However, you might not know much about him. Brought on by our Associate Editor, Jade Miller, he has been with Quail Bell for the last few months, applying his talents to cranking out wacky sex advice once a week in our 'Quail Under the Quilt' column. He's been writing almost his whole life, showing us a talent that was impossible not to snap up! Published in both Virginia Commonwealth University's Poictesme and Sink/Swim Front Porch Flash Fiction, we see a long successful literary road ahead of Sean. Hopefully our readers will continue to like his style and take on fiction! Feathery hugs, The QB Crew The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.
Congratulations to our finalists!Dear fledglings,
We're happy to announce that we've notified the finalists for our book cover art competition. On April 15th, we will announce the winner, whose art will appear on QB's first-ever book (an anthology). Thanks to everyone who submitted their artwork! Best of luck to our finalists! Feathery hugs, The QB Crew The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.
Opus FaeBefore Executive Editor Christine Stoddard founded QuailBellMagazine.com, she very briefly ran a blog called, "Opus Fae." Curious about what it looked like? "Opus Fae" is still live, though it hasn't been updated in over two years. QB is clearly the superior project!

Got Leprechaun pieces?Notice how we didn't ask you if you have pieces of leprechauns! That's quite another thing! We're curious if you have art, photography, writing, audio, and/or video related to St. Patty's Day. If so, please bring it to the attention of our editors. Send your work to [email protected] by March 16th and you might just see it posted on March 17th. Good luck and thanks!

Global FledglingsOur loyal readers know that QB's not the average 'zine. Even people who give the site or our print companion, Quail Bell Express, a cursory glance see that we're a little quirky. In an age where most folks favor pixels over paper, tomorrow over yesterday or today, and things over experiences, The QB Crew embraces the imaginary, the nostalgic, and the otherworldly. Most of our regular contributors come from Richmond, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland. However, we've received work from artists, writers, photographers, animators, and other creative types from across the globe. Right now, we're focusing our efforts on recruiting new contributors, especially ones from outside our region of the United States, to give QB more content diversity and global appeal. We are particularly interested in recruiting contributors from the following cities:
However, we are always happy to consider new contributors regardless of their location! Interested in joining the QB movement? Please send an email to [email protected] or mail a letter to: Quail Bell Magazine c/o Christine Stoddard P.O. Box 4844 Richmond, Virginia 23220 United States Thank you so much! |
