2014 is all about good things.

Dear fledglings,

Suck in that Santa gut and get ready to read, witness and create magic in the New Year. You can't use the holidays as an excuse for procrastination anymore and neither can we. It's time to get out of this gorging and gift-giving rut. Kings' Day was yesterday, so you might as well pull down the tree—unless you're into the year-round décor thing, which The Quail Bell Crew doesn't judge. In fact, you're know we're not much of a judgmental group, which we like to consider a boon to our publication. In 2014, we resolve to sweep away any remnants of our "judgy" qualities and go full-force with our commitment to social justice in D.C., Maryland, Virginia and beyond. You know we have a soft spot for the imaginary, the nostalgic, and the otherworldly. Interpreting those words is one of our favorite challenges. We're fairy punks, after all. And this year is all about embodying that identity to the fullest extent.

Need to call us out? 'Accountability' is our middle name. Feel free to contact us at any time with letters to the editor and, obviously, stellar submissions. There's only one thing we hate other than hatred and that's non-communication. The two sort of go hand in hand, or wing in wing, anyway. Don't be a stranger. Visit us as we continue to post quality content each and every day. Remember—we're here because of you.

Welcome to our staff blog, where you can learn more about The Quail Bell Crew.

History

Christine Stoddard conceived the idea for Quail Bell in late 2009 after writing a children's story by the same name, and launched the website as a college blog in 2010. In June 2013, Christine and former art director Kristen Rebelo officially launched Quail Bell Magazine as a global web magazine. Read our editorial mission statement to learn more.

Art, media, and language have enchanted Christine Stoddard since the days of her early upbringing in Arlington, VA. While still a mere fairy flutter from D.C., Christine dove into creative activities, hoping that her artistic talents would distract her teachers from learning of her mathematical inability. Luckily, her plan worked. Her non-math skills have been recognized by regional and national organizations. In October 2011, Style Weekly Magazine named her one of the "Top 40 Under 40" in Richmond, VA, while she was still a VCUarts student. Christine currently lives and works in her native Virginia. Executive Editor
Though Gretchen first dedicated her life to being a veterinarian and a best-selling writer on the side, her lack of technical abilities helped guide her towards a literary and art career. Gretchen has published work in Ms., Bustle, The Establishment, and over 30 other publications. She also has been interviewed in Dear English Major and Her Campus.
