She was awarded the Colby H. Kullman fiction prize by the University of Mississippi in 2013 and has been recognized as a notable emerging writer by Glimmer Train and the Southern Writers Symposium. She holds an MFA in fiction from Florida State University, where she earned the George M. Harper writing award.
