Kudos to one of our regulars! We have followed the trials and tribulations of Spill-O by our regular contributor, Colin Dodds. Several of his published poems in Quail Bell are now compiled into his e-book, Wisdom's Real Opposite: Poems about an Odyssey on a Stool. Ten years of poems written in and about bars. They observe impossible hopes colliding with shabby realities in both starkly lucid and deeply distorted moments. They’re funny poems that avoid being a comedy routine; severe and extreme poems that nonetheless maintain sympathy and humanity. Taken together, they represent what the best of books promise—something better than drinking alone. Poems in this, and the other three volumes in this series, have appeared in more than a hundred eighty publications, and have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. The poet and songwriter David Berman (Silver Jews, Actual Air) said of them: “These are very good poems. For moments I could even feel the old feelings when I read them.” Buy your copy here or perhaps here and grab a bourbon and blanket for your winter-reading feast. Going once, going twice... The Homeless Children's Playtime Project, a nonprofit that benefits homeless children in Washington, D.C., had an auction last month and The Quail Bell Crew took part. We donated both of our anthologies, plus our editor Christine Stoddard donated her kiddy sculpture, Reclaimed Birdhouses. Today we learned that all three pieces were auctioned off and raised $260 for this wonderful organization. Here's to giving D.C. children a happy, safe place to play! #Real #QuailBellPhilanthropy #HomelessChildrensPlaytimeProject #DCNonprofits #DCCharities #DCOrganizations Visit our shop and subscribe.
