Thanks from the editor!Photo by Helen Georgia Stoddard Dear fledglings,
Thank you to everyone who attended Quail Bell's "Once Upon a Time II: Forgotten Folklore" fashion show at Selba last Thursday. What magic! We had a wide range of talented folk, ranging from designers to stylists to models to make-up artists and more. Their hard work and enthusiasm made for QB's best fashion show yet. I'm especially grateful to Julie DiNisio (show director), Brian McDaniel (MC), R.A.I.N. (who provided the hair/make-up artists), and Selba. Selba truly proved to be the elegant venue the whole QB Crew was hoping for. I'm also thrilled that so many stores in Richmond, Virginia were willing to participate. Everyone from Rumors to Halcyon lent the show the aesthetic we needed to tell tales of Richmond's forgotten folklore. Which reminds me--I have to also thank the city of Richmond for its history and urban legends. If Richmond weren't such an old, strange place, how else could we have come up with such an original fashion show concept? (Specific kudos to Jade Miller for that idea.) All in all, I'm floored that we put on such an incredible show and I'm very thankful for everyone who came out that night. Check out forthcoming coverage in Viva RVA, RVA Magazine, and right here at Quail Bell Magazine. Feathery hugs, Christine Stoddard Executive Editor The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.

Are you our future poetry-editing fledgling?Quail Bell Magazine currently seeks a Poetry Editor. This editor will be responsible for reviewing Quail Bell's poetry submissions, notifying poets whose work has been accepted, and posting accepted work, in addition to seeking out new work. The editor will also be responsible for helping select poems for Quail Bell Magazine's print 'zine, Quail Bell Express. The editor is encouraged, though not required, to write original poetry for The Unreal, especially Photo Tales. Work is done as necessary, depending mostly on the ebb and flow of submissions.
This position can be done remotely, though applicants based in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland will be given preference. At this time, there is no monetary compensation for this position. Keep in mind, however, that this editor will be given exposure and many opportunities to contribute to a thriving online and print 'zine. That is not to mention many complementary projects and events. Examples include the Richmond 'Zine Festival, DIY Fest Baltimore, Once Upon a Time Fashion Show, etc. Please email your cover letter and resume to cstoddard [at] quailbellmagazine [dot] com. 1-5 poetry samples are also appreciated. Quail Bell & Poe--what's not to like?Quail Bell Press & Productions screened the rough cut of its documentary film, "The Persistence of Poe," in an elegant affair at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum on Sept. 27, 2012. That's right--just last Thursday. When's the next screening? The final cut's scheduled to show at the James River Filmmakers Forum in February. But there's still work to be done to bring the documentary to completion. We need you to help us get there. Please learn more about the project at PoeRichmond.com and consider making a donation.
