World Celebrates Poe's 210th Birthday

Yes, it's true! All around the world, people celebrated their favorite Gothic author's 210th birthday on Saturday, January 19th.
In Quail Bell's hometown of Richmond, Virginia, people celebrated their beloved, dark author with birthday bashes, readings, and more fun activities. At the Library of Virginia, guests could get selfies with a cutout of Poe.
Some guests included renowned scholars of Poe, interpreters, as well as young fans:
At the Poe Museum, they hosted the 2019 Poe Birthday Bash with readings, trolley tours, musical performances, and more. They even had a reading of "The Raven" in several languages:
Local bands serenaded guests as they enjoyed their tours:
Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1809 and was later taken in by John and Frances Allan in Richmond after his parents passed away when he was a child. He lived many places throughout this life, but always came back to Richmond for a spell. Though Poe only spent a brief portion of his life in Virginia's capital, his legacy still lives on.
