New U.S. Poet Laureate First Native American

The 23rd U.S. Poet Laureate has finally been announced. Joy Harjo, the United States' very first Native American Poet Laureate, was named as the nation's next wordsmith by the Librarian of Congress.
Joy is the author of seven books of poetry as well as four albums of original music. Born in Oklahoma, she now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her books and music have won numerous awards, including the William Carlos Williams Award and the Native American Music Award. Congrats, Joy, and we cannot wait to see what profound works you will create to last for the ages!
