Annual AWP Conference Begins in PortlandThe 52nd annual Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference kick offs today at 12:00pm in Portland, Oregon. AWP, founded in 1967, serves over 50,000 writers every year and over 500 college and university programs. Their annual conference hosts many of their members as well as writing enthusiasts from around the world. AWP's extensive list of reading panels and workshops are only a part of the reason why people return every year -- prestigious keynote and featured speakers also sweeten the experience. This year's keynote speaker is Colson Whitehead, the award-winning author of The Underground Railroad. Other featured speakers include Ariel Levy, Tess Gallagher, Danzy Senna, among others. In the past, keynote speakers included Azar Nafisi, George Saunders, and Karen Russell. A full list of panels and events can be found on the AWP website. The conference will conclude on March 30th with a public reception and dance party from 10:00pm to 12:00am. Are you attending the conference?
