By Aaron Gold (and friends!) One of the things I want to be clear about with my TV show Don’t Mind If I Don’t is that the goal is to convince me to like the subject, not prove/disprove it’s usefulness or validity. Psychics is a great way to demonstrate that, since I truly do not care how real it is. So with that in mind, let’s see if you can learn to enjoy learning about us learning to enjoy psychics. Enjoy this interview with the cast/crew and watch the full episode below! Who’s who: Aaron Gold: Creator, co-host Christine Stoddard: Co-host, art director Tom Dunn: Director Jacob Maximillian Baron: Director of Photography, editor What are three things you love about this episode? Aaron: Reading tarot for people of all shapes and sizes of sobriety was a blast. Everyone was game for me bullshittery and only one person shouted at us. I also feel like Christine and I started to find a great rhythm as co-hosts. That’s two things but whatever, deal with it. Christine: Toil, more toil, and trouble. Tom: I like that we [finally] left the studio and started opening up the show! JMB: The camerawork, the editing, and the sexy guy doin’ ‘em both. What surprised you most about making this episode? Aaron: Learning that Jake was psychic. Also, learning how I’d die. It’s a lot less dramatic than I thought and didn’t involve the phrase, “Hey guys, check this out!” at all! Christine: That we convinced busy New Yorkers to get their Tarot read by the guy I’m dating. Not sure how many of them just felt bad for Aaron because he was sitting alone at a table with a sign that looked like a kid made it. Maybe some of them thought he was cute. I do! Tom: How hard it is to explore something that cannot actually be proven. Making fun of not believing in something… ethereal was a trip. We better be mocking something pretty f*cking basic next time. Like mashed potatoes. Or Weezer. JMB: Nothing, I’m psychic. Which psychic power do you wish you had? Aaron: I’d psychically force rich people to be more empathic. Christine: Magically knowing where the nearest free, legal parking spot is whenever I need it. Tom: I want to communicate with basset hounds. Not dogs, just basset hounds. What’s going on there? JMB: Whether a girl wants another date with me so I know if I should cover the bill or not. What’s a behind-the-scenes secret of making this episode you want viewers to know? Aaron: Without going into gritty detail, this was the most awkward interview we’ve yet to record. And I doubt we’ll top it in that respect. Christine: Everyone on set was motivated by the Taco Bell we knew Aaron would buy us when we wrapped. Tom: We genuinely try to prepare as much as we can for these improvisational episodes. Aaron can’t go in completely blank, because then the jokes stop. I don’t think people realize how much he and Christine need to prepare themselves for what our guests MIGHT say to them. JMB: Tom and I do terrible wonderful things in the control room that can only be comprehended by those who truly understand what love is. How is this episode different than the bagpipes episode? (Haven’t seen it? Watch it here, friend.) Aaron: We got out into the world! As our second episode, we were learning more and more what we could do with the resources available to us. It’s only going to get bigger from here, baybee! Christine: We’re all gotten hotter and smarter. Tom: We got to shoot Aaron, Christine, and our guest a lot more intimately this time around. We had some truly nice quiet moments, which is an odd thing to say on a show such as ours. JMB: I’m getting better at matching the in-camera color settings! I think! Why should viewers subscribe to @dontmindtheshow on YouTube? Aaron: So they don’t miss a beat! Also it makes us look good. And you’re supporting independent artists. Why wouldn’t you?! Christine: To make our parents proud. And maybe yours, too. Tom: So they can leave salty comments about that time I left the actor’s mark on the floor… I GET IT, Aaron. You like to be in focus. Ugh, what a diva. JMB: Have they not already?!
