like a montage of Polaroids
flitted before his eyes:
encircled by ringlets of blonde hair
locked by salty sea water,
the tubular swells
washed out by a sun kissed sky,
longboards slicing through the break
ridden by wetsuit adorned stoners
displaying their trademark nonchalance;
and if only fleetingly
he wasn’t in a grey cityscape
but back surfing.
Despite having spent a few hours
of his twenty some odd years on Earth atop a surf board,
he fancied himself a surfer,
at least in the company of his “landlocked” friends.
