Odysseus: Strength and Hope
By Steven Joseph McCrystal
Tie yourself to the mast as the Siren sings.
Overhear her whispers.
Overhear her screams.
A maddening intensity
bereft of any sympathies.
A sweet voice to entice the spirit
with compelling charms.
Echoes from within the mind travel
through these songs:
the sea of doubt,
the end of the world;
until the end.
Colour entwined in a colourless mind
within a sea of doubts.
Waves crashing upon a broken woe
hope tumbles; hope falls.
Into eddies, currents, whirlpools and more.
But the mast doesn’t break.
It sways to the bitter sweet siren’s song.
Enticing one more look into darkness before she’s gone.
A vanishing point upon unknown horizons.
Beyond the hissing of doubt;
the hissing songs.
Beyond the twisted sense of fear.
Beyond the unknown destination.
Beyond the unknown horizon
it can be found . . .
By navigating Hope:
through woeful songs,
through rough green seas.
Through life it seems.
