Punk Rock Mother's Day
Thank you, Mom, for making me
the punk that I am today.
Thank you for helping me break free
By turning me away From all the societal things That only served to clip my wings And how to heal all afflictions Caused by commercial addictions. Whenever kids laughed at my weird clothes, You said, “People like that? Oh yeah; screw those.” You bought me my first Ramones album When the other kids called them dumb; You showed me true safetypin-craft: And remember how hard we laughed, When kids who mocked my sweet shadows, Began to turn up at punk shows? You taught me that I am divine And that my body is all mine To do with and all that I please Standing up or on my knees. When people harped on my big ass On the streets and in my class You praised my curvaceous body 'Cuz, just like you, I'm a hottie; How the only arms I’ll ever need Are love, justice, and bravery To escape mental slavery. By my own virtues, I succeed, And, if I should need a lift, How to survive on the sheer thrift Of the mind, the flesh, and the soul. To be perfect is to be whole. You gave me love, empowerment, art, Untamed spirits, a restless heart, And all that makes me a real freak - Beautiful, brazen, and unique. There's a time to be quiet, There's a time to be still, There's a time to riot, But always be chill, And before each life is but a haunt, Be sure to pursue what you want. Welcome the timely intrusion Of every great revolution. No matter how much this world tries, To ensure that my essence dies, I know exactly what to do: Remain a badass just like you.
