Eye Contact

In the waiting room we sit
in the blue chairs—
in every other blue chair.
We choose not to take the risk of elbows, don’t we? The only thing worse than seeing someone through their eyes is to be seen through any human eyes. There is risk in that. That is the risk when we humanize outside of our own electric highways, forgetting there is nothing solid in this world. I am not ready to accept the guilt of the divide, so I keep my head down, like the rest of us. In the waiting room we sit in the blue chairs, in every other chair, and we mind our own business, don’t we?
