Alone

Have you ever sat so still that you could count the snowflakes?
One snowflake, two, three, four, and it's a blizzard. that will melt away suddenly when the sun wakes. In the morning, I am alone sitting on my porch. The bushes hold promises of birds and chipmunks, who will give themselves back to the world; The dirt. I alone hold my feet in the dirt. The moisture of a past rain is a gift from the sky. I alone am in the center of the world's light. I alone am a star from the midnight sky. I alone am all animals; the bear, tiger, flamingo, rabbit, butterfly, parrot, crocodile, shark, honey badger, who does not give a fuck. I alone am all plants; the strawberry, lemon basil, scented lavender, maple tree, redwood, banana crazy. I alone am a noun in this poem, an idea of a truth, a perspective, a goddess, a king's wife, a mother, a slave, a murderer, a midnight caller, a key, the air, the earth, the symbol of yin and yang, a mirror... Alone. I walked back into my house. on the floor was a telescope small and gold. I look up at the sky. There is an empty space. I bow. Thank you for holding me in place, today.
