Poem: A Precious Moment
A Precious Moment
Words by Julian Drury
Artwork by Amanda Chisholm
They tell you, run don't walk.
Run where, and how fast?
They tell you to run without shoes.
I can't run in boots, tightly laced.
Can you stand on broken glass?
Stand still, instead, I say.
A precious moment cannot run.
A beautiful smile, and a dangerous mind.
Cherish these things, I say.
Do this with the one who gives you time.
Games are losing bets.
Unless you play your own game.
Don't win, or lose, just smile.
If she smiles back at you, good.
If she calls, or jokes about you, better.
If she makes you look at the sky, great.
She will make you believe in yourself.
Always move slowly, let things go.
When she looks, and you look back.
Think of the time not wasted.
It is about recognition, not sex.
I want a beautiful smile, from a dangerous mind.
I want to have coffee, and talk until we tire.
I want you to know who I am.
I want you to give me that time.
If she shares this time, then relax.
You have found a precious moment.
Walk, don't run, I say.

So strong, powerful, grounded in a deep, silent truth that lives within the poet. I have to express my admiration for this piece, and yet there is not much I can say. Only that it has the ability to move you, and there is no higher purpose a poem could have.
