Macabre FairytalesI have always been fascinated by the concept of death and the many attitudes toward our own mortality. However through paper, humanity has found a way to cheat the end—paintings in museums and books in libraries consist of centuries of recorded life echoes that transcend. My work represents the simple, humorous, contemplative moments of the juxtaposition between life and death, the seen and the imaginary, as well as the sensual and the intellectual. I try to capture the absurdity and ephemerality of life in a theatrical way and call attention to the importance of the whimsical web in which we weave. My work embraces and explores the darker aesthetics, thereby hoping to reduce our fear of the unknown, and in turn appreciate the light for its genuine beauty. I draw to tell intangible moments captured, creating my own modern fairytales that will hopefully be frozen behind glass in the forests of the mind.
