A Review of Loaded GunThere’s plenty of Canadian-born talents that become famous internationally. Artists like Avril Lavinge, Celine Dion, and Shania Twain are all drastically different artists that have enjoyed immense success. The next in line has instantly become one of my favorites. Bringing a whole new sound to the world is edgy musician Chrystyna Marie. Chrystyna Marie’s latest EP Loaded Gun is a sexy mix of pop, rock, and blues that has more than enough potential to be the next chart-topper. The title track “Loaded Gun” immediately became a favorite song of mine, which is rare for me. Perhaps because it sounds like it could be out of a modern Western or a song featured in American Horror Story. I often times need to listen to a song a few times before loving it, but Marie’s rich voice and fearless lyrics work well with her gritty edge. “Loaded Gun” tells the story of someone fed-up and leaving behind a dead-beat lover that’s unfaithful and plays dangerously with hearts, noting, “You shoot me down just for fun / But tonight, you better run.” Effectively, the singer turns the “gun” on her lover, declaring, “’Cause I don’t need six shots / I only need just one.” “The Tower” is a significant shift from “Loaded Gun” with a sound that is reminiscent of Evanescence with a gentle piano and guitar strums in the background. “Down the Road” is another track that has elements of a Western and blues edge that tells of finally achieving peace after a long journey, metaphorical or not. “No More” sheds the blues for a more pop-geared track that still mixes well with the rest of the EP. Overall, another good investment if you’re looking to support indie artists.
