She As a self-portrait and documentary of sorts, I wanted to explore and illustrate how the act of women viewing each other on a daily basis alters how we in turn view ourselves. I was inspired partly by John Berger's "Ways of Seeing" but mostly wanted to make this piece because the ways we think about each other and the ways in which we think about ourselves are so important and have a lot more to do with one another than I think we sometimes realize. #Film #She #ShortFilm #Documentary

A Thousand Times A thousand times' is composed of 98 photos repeated five times, and layered with my lyrics & vocals. This film deals with the fear of losing someone to their personal sadness, of which a relationship cannot fix. The repetition of photos highlights the unending cycle of bearing others burdens, when in reality we are incapable of fulfilling a role as their savior. #Film #LisTropea #AThousandTimes #Photography #Relationships #Loss

Las Lucas Que Ilustran As a bilingual and bicultural student trying to discover my film potential at the California State Summer School for the Arts Pre-College Film and Video Program at Cal Arts, I decided to make a short in Spanish. I wanted it to touch upon the struggle of cultural identity and equality in society currently. This English subtitled video conveys the message that everyone wants the same things such as a prosperous life or healthy family. I hope it reminds audiences that ethnicity or heritage do not signify that humans are different from each other when it comes down to our basic desires, hopes and dreams. The group of actresses wrapped in white strings of lights suggests the majority in society while the group of actresses in multi-colored lights represents the minorities in society. As the multi-colored, multi-cultural lights attempt to approach the white lights, the color lights are shown they are not welcomed. I chose to use stings of lights make the video seem less aggressive as well as more digestible and inspiring. #Film #BiancaValle #LasLucasQueIlustran #Bilingual #CalArts #ShortFilm #Spanish #Subtitles #MultiCultural

The Mime's StoryThe Mime's Story is a tale of unseen politicians who cruelly make laws that destroy lives. It is a metaphor for the gay rights crusade worldwide. In the creator's words: "I moved to Miami with CBS and the Wometco Theater Company, and I later founded my own independent production companies. Over the years in Miami and Los Angeles I directed full length documentary shows and segments for all major networks in the U.S., U.K., and Japan. Refreshing my college theater work, I wrote, staged, and directed original plays with the Writers and Directors Unit of the Actors Studio. I taught for UCLA Extension, the USC film school, the American Film Institute, and for the IAFT in Cebu, Philippines. Recently the CalArts Redcat theater at the Disney Hall downtown chose my stage play 'The Dream Lady' for workshop reading."
