I'm a Teacher Who Refuses to Be Your Damn MartyrAnonymous QuailBellMagazine.com I'm religious, but you better start sending more than your thoughts and prayers. I teach because I care about the future of our kids, not to fear for all of our futures. I didn't study for five years to be someone's memorial candle and nothing more. I will not be the human shield you emptily admire on the evening news.
The children I have taught and will continue to teach deserve more. The students of Columbine deserved more. Sandy Hook deserved more. Stoneman Douglas should not be on my TV right now. And yet, I see the same politicians telling God's children about their thoughts and prayers when they should be hearing the echoes of James 2:17: "So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless." Republican or Democrat, take better care of our children and country. Do not continue to dine on five-star cuisine when AR-15s can change lives for the worst. Stoneman Douglas freshman Michelle Lapidot asked a question we're all wondering: were their lives worth the NRA blood money you've spent? Will the NRA continue to be more precious than human life? I am an educator. I grade papers. I create lesson plans. I am not your picture on a prayer vigil. Don't light a candle near me. Light a revolution instead. Teachers and students from around the country are watching. Do not continue to make one of history's biggest mistakes. CommentsComments are closed.
