American Commercials
Rich men on TV eat cereal while staring at a jar of roaches
joyfully talking about sodomy and Nike shoes, though one of them gets jealous about the fact that his tie is made of polyester rather than velvet, but it was okay for the most apart, until the other men made fun of him which caused a gunfight on air, though the paramedics claimed the deaths were quick to which the TV host closed his show with a smile and gladly told his audience “God Bless America, and whatever you do in life, remember to buy Cost-Brand Cereal.”

Bucket List
Jump start the day with a quick defibrillator pulse.
Choose a life to live. A life to love. Choose big wheels; dips and peaks from coaster screams. Go awesome - epic - with silk chute in tow as you glide in peace for a while; descending as you go. Climb, climb, climb: to a mountain top, and watch the clouds beneath your feet create marshmallow skies. A tango, a rhumba, flamenco then twist to music that makes you shudder with bliss. Embrace the essence of art in all of its forms: A sculptured renaissance; a lover’s kiss captured forever in the sands of time. Only a moment in an hourglass mind. Make love everywhere Make love to the world Make love before a ghost train yanks you back on track before your time.

Who Shall Wear the Robe and Crown?
A Ford rolled up to the gas station where the Decatur Road came to a cross with the Old Ellis Switch. The driver stopped the pickup on the other side of the pumps and went inside.
The station was a mess of fry grease and Windex with a Fleetwood Mac song playing from somewhere in the wiring. He bought something to drink and asked his friend at the counter for a pack of cowboy killers. The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.

Is this beauty?
Spoon fed television; 1984 conditioners, fragrant perfumes. Old spices numb; compliant consciousness, pulled in fear, towards this meal . . . The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.
If That Meant A Little Ennui Then Fine
She wanted to live back when women wore practiced smiles and uncomfortable underthings. She wanted to wear high heels at breakfast and fret about little more than a few communists. It attracted her, the simplicity of a life built around finding a man and then tending to him, flipping through paper catalogs while he was at work. If that meant a little ennui then fine, she could handle that. She had ennui now and no fine things to go with it.

I Bury Myself in Winter
By Mari Pack

the death is soundless, and small
but I remember those places where I unceremoniously made the homes of my twenties I remember that after the rain ended in the desert or when the snow ceased over the tundra I opened my eyes there she is, the one who survived the wastelands.

Baby Blue
By Kody Stadler
QuailBellMagazine.com
There was something about her eyes. The pale waves of baby blue inviting me into her heart before the black dots swallowed me whole, never to be found again. But everything was okay – I loved it. I was safe, I was home. She became my home, and as I would drown within the deep blues of her eyes, sinking to the bottom of the abyss, I couldn’t help but smile as I whispered her name the entire way down:
‘Elizabeth.’ The Breadcrumbs widget will appear here on the published site.
Terra Firma
By Alex Wenderoff
QuailBellMagazine.com
Like an aged, punch-drunk boxer who finds himself utterly aimless and without utility after his body fails him, is how Dan King found himself on July 21, 1969, the day man, a man other than Dan, walked on the moon.
He’d spent seemingly all of his 37 years on the earth trying to escape it. The dream he realized was snatched away from him after a mere two minutes and ten seconds in outer space. The brevity of his mission was overshadowed by the mental episode that ultimately banished Dan from NASA, taking from him the fame and adulation he had enjoyed as the icon of the nascent space program, and miring him I obscurity forever on the terra firma. Mecca's ReposeI chartered a course, belligerent in my quest, but I lost my way. So here I stand, in Mecca’s glory, measuring the moment, thoughts glistening, a declaration of redemption. I once thought, the devil created blue eyes, etched on alabaster boxes, and Allah’s radiance, settled on a faithful few. I was blind, now I see, God created all equally.
