Untitled With ScissorsBattery Rocks, Penzance 2013. (Photo by Rebecca Weeks.) The "Untitled With Scissors" series is both static and fluid—a living tableau of one player. Riddled with suggestion, it has at once baffled / annoyed / amused / passed by / captured the audiences it has come across. Although not firmly against talking about the piece, Kemp currently elects against sharing her largely elliptical personal explanations in great favor of encouraging everyone who is not she to engage with their own perceptions and provocations. Of course if you were to meet her by chance in the woods, under favourable conditions, and if you were to ask her really nicely, she might just talk to you about it. We saw her last week and she mumbled something about ‘the mother of all studies’ just before flicking a lit match into bathtub full of white rum and letting her eyes roll up into the back of her head. That isn’t part of the piece—it just happened to be Holy Flammable Thursday. "Untitled With Scissors" is an ongoing endeavour and this is but a selection of the images collected to date. She As a self-portrait and documentary of sorts, I wanted to explore and illustrate how the act of women viewing each other on a daily basis alters how we in turn view ourselves. I was inspired partly by John Berger's "Ways of Seeing" but mostly wanted to make this piece because the ways we think about each other and the ways in which we think about ourselves are so important and have a lot more to do with one another than I think we sometimes realize. #Film #She #ShortFilm #Documentary
