Fat Girl PinkBy Ghia Vitale Some people say fat girls shouldn’t wear pink because the color is "unflattering" and draws too much attention to something society doesn’t want to see: a person with a fat body who's daring to take up space and exist in public without apology. They say pink is too “loud” a color for a demographic they’d prefer to be invisible. They cloak their bigotry in fashion advice by offering tips on “how to flatter your body type” or “how to make yourself look slimmer.” Thin people expect fat people to shrink ourselves with dark colors yet when I wear all black, they dis me for being too “goth.” The verdict is clear: People feel entitled to my appearance and think I should be grateful for their unsolicited advice on how I should look. Meanwhile, I owe them nothing. I wear pink because it brings me joy and makes me feel cute. Here’s the thing: Pink belongs to people of all sizes and genders. Fat people deserve to know the joy of wearing pink as much as anyone else does. Pink is the dream. Pink is power. I reclaim that power whenever I adorn my fat body in pinkness. Fat Girl Pink is a thing and I’m here for it. Attention all plus size fashion brands: Please embrace the power of pink and start making more pink clothes. Pink is a whole mood and it should come in every size. Contrary to popular belief, Pinkness and fatness go together like cheese and wine. Let's lead by example and start a pink fatshion revolution.
