Artist Bio & StatementValentín Sánchez-Stoddard (they/them), founder of Little Sánchez Studio, is a Queer and Trans Salvadoran-American visual artist and community worker currently living in Philadelphia. Their work primarily weaves together their bicultural upbringing that are tested in a contemporary landscape of political unrest, passed-down intergenerational trauma and their own place in the larger narrative of immigration/borderlands. Valentín's understanding of the importance of their own healing and navigating their queerness through various spaces also informs their work. Little Sánchez Studio was established in September 2019 as a way to metaphorically and visually verbalize these ideas. Their small business showcases current projects and visual explorations in the studio, as well as community engagement projects and fundraisers. Little Sánchez Studio offers a selection of Valentín's mixed-media artwork, illustrations, handcrafted jewelry (for everyone!) and other one-of-a-kind, hecho con amor goods at affordable prices. Valentín's jewelry collections have been very much inspired by the elemental world, as well as paying homage to Central American diaspora and roots that serve as a current reminder not to forget. Recent community fundraiser collaborations have been with New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia to raise funds for immigrant and refugees communities; Youth Art & Self-Empowerment Project for restorative practices with formerly incarcerated youth in the state of Pennsylvania; and CISPES towards COVID/Natural Disaster relief for elders in El Salvador. Future goals of the studio are to participate in community fundraisers, publish zines, and have their own call for art for publication and exhibition.
