Would You Like Jam with that Dragonflutter?By Christine Stoddard QuailBellMagazine.com Who are you and why do you spend your time crafting such adorable dragons with such exquisite wings? My name is Nina Bolen and I'm a freelance fantasy artist. I've always loved dragons and fairies so I thought the combination of both would be great. Describe the process you go through to make your plushies. I start with a concept drawing, so I can would out all the details, colors, size etc... I then make a pattern and make a soft sculpture form (like a blank stuffed animal) I then begin needle felting wool on to the soft sculpt. Needle felting is a little like sculpting with wool. Days later, I have a needle felted plush! What draws you to fantasy and fairytales? Why not make plush bears and bunnies instead?
Well, I do make bunnies and bears, too, but my specialty has always been whimsical fantasy art. I guess I'm drawn to it because not a lot of other people are making things like my dragons. You can find teddy bears anywhere but where else do you find "Dragonflutters"? What appeals to you about dragons in particular? I've been fascinated by dragons for as long as I can remember. It just seams like I've always collected dragons, like they are a part of my life. How can our dear readers purchase your lovely plushies? I do mostly everything by custom order and no two plush are every just alike. Plush can be ordered from my website: Featherheart.com CommentsComments are closed.
