M.F.A.? Check! Grief? Check!By Paisley Hibou You've not only earned your Master's of Fine Arts but a really dark mental health period, too. Here are the 5 stages of grief you'll experience after you leave the Ivory Tower, with your diploma in your overly creative hand: 1. Denial. No, it can't be true...I've finally graduated?! School is over? I'm done? For real? 2. Anger. The loans! The job applications! The missed professional opportunities! I should've gone to law school! 3. Depression. My M.F.A. is worthless. Art is worthless. I'm worthless.
4. Bargaining. I will never, ever again think of doing a Ph.D. if I can just get another year of my M.F.A. funded... 5. Acceptance. I survived and I will keep up with my craft. Art is my destiny (and my burden.) Yay destiny! Yay burden!
