Quail Bell to Read at New York Poetry FestivalBy Rachel Rivenbark Brace yourselves, Fledglings, because July is shaping up to be a very exciting month for Quail Bell Magazine! Among other things, we are extremely happy to announce that Quail Bell will once again be taking part in the annual NYC Poetry Festival this year! Taking place on the last weekend of every July, the festival helps to celebrate the beautifully diverse world of poetry in all its forms, featuring readings of the works of over 250 poets traveling to join in on the two-day event.
In their words, the purpose of the festival - first established in 2011 by Stephanie Berger and Nicholas Adamski, in response to the lack of poetry events in New York - is to “- liberate poets and their work from the dark corners of bars, bookstores, and coffee shops and their halogen-lit college campuses, and to bring together as many NYC poets as possible, in the bright light of day, to meet, mingle, and collaborate.” The event will be located at The Colonels’ Row on Governor’s Island, New York, NY 10004, and will be taking place across five different stages on Saturday, July 27th, from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., as well as on Sunday, July 28th, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. It will be completely free, and open for the public to enjoy the work of the many esteemed poets showcasing their pieces there, several members of our own beloved Quail Bell team included. Scheduled for the 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. slot on Saturday, July 27th on the Algonquin Stage, the readings will include our very own Christine Sloan Stoddard, Jessica Reidy, Mari Pack, Miranda C. Dennis, Ghia Vitale, Kaylin Marie, and Benjamin E. Nardolilli! The event will also feature a wide variety of vendors selling goods of a diverse nature, both literary and otherwise. The entire event promises to be a stellar good time, so if any readers happen to be around New York on the weekend of the 27th and 28th, be sure to stop in to show our team and the other poets at the event some love and support in their craft! For further information on the poets and organizations scheduled to be featured there, please refer HERE.
