If you envision a modern and sleek look for your living room, then you can consider opting for a textured tile for the façade of your fireplace. A more classic design might incorporate some rustic stonework into the mix. Whatever you decide to go with, a fireplace will be the perfect place to start with your design plans.

If you don’t already have a fireplace in your home, you can still explore some options for fireplaces that don’t require a chimney. Balanced flue gas fires are easily installed into most spaces without the need for a chimney. They are also a bit more affordable than other, more traditional fireplaces.

Invest in Quality Furniture

One of the things that can end up costing quite a bit when it comes to designing your living room is the furniture you decide to go with. Things like sofas and armchairs can be on the more expensive side depending on how durable you would like your furnishings to be. It is a good idea, though, to consider spending a little extra on such pieces if you are in a position to do so.

While there are some stylish items available for less, these generally won’t offer the same lifespan as the more expensive choices on the market. Your furniture will be susceptible to quite a lot of wear and tear in the course of its life, so it is worth it to spend more upfront so as to avoid having to replace worn out pieces in five year’s time. 

Have Fun With Textures and Colour

Two of the areas where you can really get creative when it comes to the design of your living space are the textures of the fabrics you use and the colors that you select for your walls and trim. Consider going with a soft area rug that will be inviting to your bare feet and plush throw pillows for added comfort on your sofa. 

The color of your walls will set the tone for the entire space so be sure to decide right off the bat what sort of tone you’d like to go with. The key thing to bear in mind is that you should have a consistent aspect of each of these design elements.
