A Guide to Staying Entertained on Long Drives
Long drives aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, some people absolutely hate them, and it’s easy to see why. Who would want to be stuck in a vehicle for hours on end, with the risks of motion sickness and possible bad company? We’ve all been there, driving with a poorly chosen passenger and vice versa. However, lucky for us passengers, there are more ways to entertain ourselves; finally putting Eye Spy to a well-deserved rest.
If you’re preparing for a drive you’re dreading, here’re the best ways to keep yourself entertained:
Overload on Apps
We like to keep our phones free from overly cluttered home screens, but before a long journey, it’s time to install and download as many apps as possible, so any potential boredom is beaten. People’s firm favorites include Netflix, Spotify, and messaging apps. You should also download whatever games are currently sitting first, second and third in the rankings. However, make sure to pack some headphones, so you don’t distract the driver.
Learn Something New
This is the perfect time to educate yourself, whether it’s for some upcoming exams you’re about to take or if you wish to learn a new language just because. Download a language app or bring a textbook, and engage with the driver. Who knows, after a few hours, the both of you could be engaging in a conversation, pretending you’re somewhere foreign or exotic.
This is also great for the driver if they’ve got any upcoming exams. Beforehand, compile a pop quiz so you can ask them questions why they drive. Alternatively, if neither of you have to study for something, bring along a few general knowledge quiz games that aren’t too distracting.
Pack a Bag
Some people are content with staring out the window, watching the world go by through the passenger’s window. However, the majority are not and can become easily bored with our own company. Therefore, it’s always safe to prepare and pack a bag full of goodies. That usually means books, magazines, chargers and anything else you cannot live without such as your Auster vaping kit, phone charger and headphones. It also couldn’t hurt to bring snacks, but remember that it’s easy to overeat on a car journey.
What’s That Song?
With the driver fully immersed in arriving at the destination in one piece, sometimes it’s the job of the passenger to liven things up – to a point. Therefore, it’s all well and good when you’re watching films and TV shows, but what about the happiness of the person getting you from A to B? The best way to keep your driver from boredom or becoming sleepy is to plug in your mobile phone and log into your Spotify or Apple Music account. Select a playlist, whether it be a ‘throwback,’ filled with popular tunes or completely obscure. It’s always fun to watch someone struggle to name a hit or put you to shame by guessing an unknown song correctly. Plus, it could turn into car karaoke.
