Richmond, Virginia's 4th Annual yArt Sale!
We are excited to dive into our 4th RVA yArt Sale and thankful that you are part of this art collective! yArt wouldn't be a success without your desire to participate! For those of you that are new to yArt, it is a free event. There is no fee for you to table this event and no one collects a percentage of your sales. yArt operates under these conditions in order to provide any and every artist with an opportunity to share their art with the community. It also provides you with the chance to commune with fellow artists. However, because we do not receive fees from you, we do not have a budget from which to draw from for supplies and promotion. This means that it is essential that you participate with the promotion of the event by printing and posting flyers as well as spreading the word online.
WHEN: May 10 from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m./dark CHECK-IN: 11 AM and not a minute earlier WHERE: Hardywood Craft Park Brewery You will need to provide your own table and chair or any other displays that you require. We ask all artists to plan on using one table, so that we have room to accommodate everyone. Tents are permissible but you will need to have a means to secure your tent even if you do not have a grassy area to set up in, since grassy areas are limited and Hardywood prefers that we leave them vacant. Artists will need to have their own way to receive payments and make change. Hardywood has booked several bands to play beginning at 3pm. Food trucks will also be on hand! yArt has grown exponentially which is fantastic but this means that there will be a limited number of vendors allowed. In order to reserve a space, please send an email to RVAYARTSALE@GMAIL.COM with the following information: Name: Phone: Art Medium: Link to website/ Facebook: Willing to assist in event planning and preparation? Y / N If after you have committed you realize that you are unable to attend, please email us as soon as possible. We will be sending out information via email periodically, so please check your email regularly!

Welcome to the new year, Fledglings. Dear Fledglings, Ye olde school folks already know that today is the Epiphany; it's the culmination of Christmas. The famed Twelfth Day! Crafting Stories from Virginia's Tales of Yesteryear Do you want to meet Quail Bell's founding editor and have a chance to write with her, too? Then sign up for this seminar on creative nonfiction she will be leading at Charlottesville, Virginia's WriterHouse in a couple of weeks. Here's the seminar blurb: The magic of Virginia lies in its stories, from textbook legends taught across America to neighborhood tales passed down for generations. Do you love Appalachian yarns or have an ancestor worthy of a biography? In this creative nonfiction seminar, you'll have the chance to share your ideas, try out several writing exercises, learn about Virginia history and folklore resources, and receive feedback on any work you've completed thus far. Writers at all stages are welcome. Please bring a draft of your writing if you have one ready! #Real #QuailBellEvents #WriterHouse #VirginiaWriters #CharlottesvilleWriters #VirginiaHistory #HistoryWriters #Creative Visit our shop and subscribe. Kudos to one of our regulars! We have followed the trials and tribulations of Spill-O by our regular contributor, Colin Dodds. Several of his published poems in Quail Bell are now compiled into his e-book, Wisdom's Real Opposite: Poems about an Odyssey on a Stool. Ten years of poems written in and about bars. They observe impossible hopes colliding with shabby realities in both starkly lucid and deeply distorted moments. They’re funny poems that avoid being a comedy routine; severe and extreme poems that nonetheless maintain sympathy and humanity. Taken together, they represent what the best of books promise—something better than drinking alone. Poems in this, and the other three volumes in this series, have appeared in more than a hundred eighty publications, and have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. The poet and songwriter David Berman (Silver Jews, Actual Air) said of them: “These are very good poems. For moments I could even feel the old feelings when I read them.” Buy your copy here or perhaps here and grab a bourbon and blanket for your winter-reading feast. Going once, going twice... The Homeless Children's Playtime Project, a nonprofit that benefits homeless children in Washington, D.C., had an auction last month and The Quail Bell Crew took part. We donated both of our anthologies, plus our editor Christine Stoddard donated her kiddy sculpture, Reclaimed Birdhouses. Today we learned that all three pieces were auctioned off and raised $260 for this wonderful organization. Here's to giving D.C. children a happy, safe place to play! #Real #QuailBellPhilanthropy #HomelessChildrensPlaytimeProject #DCNonprofits #DCCharities #DCOrganizations Visit our shop and subscribe.
