One Night, Two Original Book Art ProjectsAfter over a year's worth of consideration, planning, and eventual execution, executive editor Christine Stoddard will be unveiling her photography and word book art projects, Sueños Tapatios and Mixteco/RVA, at the Virginia Center for Latin American Art for the December edition of Richmond's First Friday Artwalk. Designed by art director Kristen Rebelo, Sueños Tapatios is an interactive book art project featuring Christine's photographs of everyday scenes in Jalisco, Mexico plus Christine's poem about the desert town Lagunillas. Mixteco/RVA, also designed by Kristen, is an accordion-style photography and prose book art project where Christine presents her journey toward understanding linguistic injustice in the Commonwealth. Because of their Hispanic subject matter, photographic content, and combined English and Spanish text, the projects complement each other well. The Quail Bell Crew is extremely grateful to The Puffin Foundation for supporting Mixteco/RVA. The Puffin Foundation also kindly funded the printing and framing of Christine's 20"x40" photograph of the Mixtec Women's Handiwork Circle that has hung in Sacred Heart Center since May 2012. Check out the Facebook event page for this Friday's show here.

Counting Our BlessingsDear fledglings,
Thanks for excusing The Quail Bell Crew for Thanksgiving. We needed a breather and some homemade food shoved down our gullets. Now we're back and ready to rumble, quail style. But before we resume our usual activities, I wanted to thank you for reading. As art director Kristen Rebelo and I devote more time, energy, and passion (*sizzle*) to Quail Bell Magazine, we're thrilled to be picking up new readers and finding links to our posts all over cyberspace. You're the reason Quail Bell is becoming less of a casual pastime for us and now a more serious endeavor. Because we know you're checking back and sharing links you like. Please continue doing just that—and don't forget to look at our vamped up Facebook page. We are grateful to you for it. Feathery hugs, Christine Stoddard/ “Luna Lark” Founder/Editor QuailBellMagazine.com |
