Packing up but not wrapping upDear Fledglings,
As you may already know, art director Kristen Rebelo and I are moving from Richmond and back to our native Greater Washington. We have a variety of reasons for making this decision and we're excited about it. From the roar of the Potomac River to the eclectic houses of Capitol Hill to the greasy eats of Adams Morgan, D.C. is a strange and wonderful place to live largely because it's so an anomaly among American cities. Yet so is Richmond. Today I shot Kristen a text and asked her for three things she will miss about Richmond. She replied:
My three things? Just three? Well, only if I'm at gunpoint:
But there's so much more. One of the sweetest experiences I had at the Brooklyn Zine Fest last weekend, for instance, was hearing several visitors to the Quail Bell table say how much they liked Richmond. It recently struck me that Richmond has been my home off and on for nearly six years. For all of my travel—from Scotland to Peru and beyond—RVA remains one of my favorite places. After all, Quail Bell Magazine was born here. And I'll never forget that. D.C., though, is home. It's where I formed my earliest memories, from the Baltimore harbor to the shops of Leesburg. Now I've got to go back. That being said, Quail Bell will always have Richmond roots, and I'll always carry Richmond in my heart. I know Kristen will, too. If you're in the D.C. area, come meet Kristen and me at an upcoming event. You'll also increasingly find us haunting NYC and Philly. Our first big thing following the big move? Fest Too. As always, thank you for reading.
