About Christine, Founder & Creative Director
Christine Sloan Stoddard is the founder of Quail Bell and was recognized as a Top 20 Media Visionary in their 20s by FOLIO: Magazine for the achievement. As a working author, artist, actress, and film/theatre-maker, she creates everything from books to films to paintings to plays and other imaginings. She is the creator of the TV show Badass Lady-Folk, the multimedia comedy act Art Bitch, the comic Forget Fairytales, the drama "Mi Abuela, Queen of Nightmares," the arthouse film Sirena's Gallery, and more. She is also the co-host of the comedy TV show "Don't Mind If I Don't" with her boyfriend Aaron Gold (who contributes reviews to Quail Bell). In 2023, Brooklyn Magazine named her one of its Top 50 Most Fascinating People.
She is the author of several fiction, poetry, photography, and nonfiction books. These include Heaven is a Photograph, Naomi & The Reckoning, Belladonna Magic, Desert Fox by the Sea, Water for the Cactus Woman, Hispanic & Latino Heritage in Virginia, and other titles. Her first children's title, The Book of Quails, illustrated by Sami Cronk, is now available. Christine's art and writing have appeared in Ms. Magazine, The Feminist Wire, Bustle, Native Peoples Magazine, Cosmopolitan, The Huffington Post, Yes! Magazine, Marie Claire, The Brooklyn Quarterly, Bushwick Daily, Brooklyn Poets, and elsewhere.

Christine has shared her creations and talents at venues ranging from museums to theaters to galleries and beyond. Among them are the New York Transit Museum, the Broadway Comedy Club, Poetic Theater Productions, the New York City Poetry Festival, the Queens Museum, Theater for the New City, the Poe Museum, the Kennedy Center, etc. Previous residencies and fellowships include exhibitions and explorations at the Queens Botanical Garden, 1708 Gallery, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, VCUarts Anderson Gallery, Annmarie Sculpture Garden, and other fabulous sites.
Born to a Salvadoran mother and New Yorker father in Virginia, Christine lives in Brooklyn. Currently, she is an incoming MS Documentary Journalism candidate at Columbia University and is participating in the BMI Musical Theater Workshop as a bookwriter. She holds an MFA in Digital & Interdisciplinary Art Practice from The City College of New York-CUNY and a dual BA in Film and English from Virginia Commonwealth University. While still in college, she earned a national emerging artist grant from the Puffin Foundation and was named one of Richmond, VA's "Top 40 Under 40" by Style Weekly.
